Jacob Grimm, former resident of this county passed away at his home in Mobile, Alabama, Wednesday, December 27, 1939, after a year's illness.
Mr. Grimm was born in Zurich Switzerland, January 03, 1851 and at the time of his death was 88 years, 11 months and 24 days old. On his arrival in American, he settled in the state of Indiana, later he came to Chickasaw county and for a number of years lived on a farm southeast of Lawler and the past 15 years has resided in Mobile, Alabama.
The body arrived in Hawkeye, Sunday and funeral services were held from the Fritz Funeral Home in Hawkeye at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 1, with Rev Kraemer officiating. Burial was made in Stapleton cemetery. Two sons, one daughter and one step daughter preceded him in death. Mrs. Grimm passed away December 28, 1936. The surviving children are Louie Grimm, Hawkeye, Mrs. Kathryn Vance, Mason City, Mrs. Matilda Barske, Independence, Mrs. Lena Lange, New Hampton, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ida Bentien, Monona and one stepson, Fred Zmoos, Waucoma. thirteen grandchildren, one sister in Switzerland and one sister in Indiana also survive.
Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Zmoos and fmaily, Waucoma, Mrs. Ida Bentien, Monona, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Grimm and family, Hawkeye, Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Vance of Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Barske of Independence, Mr. and Mrs. S. Sill, Independence, Mrs. Lena Lange and Mr and Mrs Jerome Heit of New Hampton.
